Choosing a wedding venue isn’t just about how it looks —
it’s about how it works for your day.
Before you sign anything, ask these 10 questions to make sure the venue isn’t just beautiful…
but also practical, flexible, and stress-free.
⸻
1. Is our preferred date available?
Always ask this first — no point falling in love with a venue that’s already booked.
⸻
2. What’s the maximum guest capacity (for seated dinner vs. cocktail)?
A space may fit 300 people,
but it might only feel good with 250.
Ask for the comfortable max, not just the technical one.
⸻
3. What’s included in the venue fee? (Tables, chairs, linens, sound, lighting, etc.)
Some venues are “all-in-one,”
while others charge extra for almost everything.
Know what’s covered so you can compare fairly.
⸻
4. Can we bring in outside vendors? Is there a fee?
Many couples want their own makeup artist, photographer, or wedding planner.
Make sure the venue allows that — and if not, what the restrictions are.
⸻
5. Can we use the venue for pre-wedding shoots or rehearsals?
Some venues allow this for free.
Some charge extra.
Ask early to avoid surprises.
⸻
6. What are the time limits for setup, the event itself, and breakdown?
Some venues limit use to 4 hours,
or allow setup only 1 hour before the event — which can be tight.
Make sure the timing works for your vendors too.
⸻
7. Is there a bridal/groom preparation room available?
A proper space to get ready is key!
Find out where it is, how big it is, and when you can access it.
⸻

8. How are the lighting, sound system, and backup rain plan (for outdoor events)?
Great sound and lighting can make the atmosphere.
For outdoor weddings, ask about tents, indoor backup, and weather contingencies.
⸻
9. Is parking available — and how many cars can it handle?
Especially important in city venues.
Ask if valet service is included or available for extra.
⸻
10. How many site visits are allowed before the wedding day?
You may want to bring your planner, family, or photographers to visit again.
Some venues limit access or charge per visit — ask what’s allowed.
